CLAW SHORTENING
TIP OF THE WEEK – CLAW SHORTENING
Why is claw shortening so important?
Overgrown claws can cause problems with the complete musculoskeletal system. The dog should step on the pads of the feet to dampen shocks when moving. If the claws outgrow, damping with the paws is not possible, the shocks pass through the toes to other joints of the body. Gradually, therefore, there may be pain in the fingers and joints and an overall poor load on the dog’s body.
I have been shortening it for a few years with a Dremel Micro 8050 grinder. I am extremely satisfied. It’s fast, accurate and I’m absolutely not afraid of taking it “alive”.
